The sea bed drops down a kelp forest to about 20m where a short sandy strip quickly becomes a boulder slope down to over 30m. The Anchor Bowl has a range of lift from the macro life on the boulders to the northern sea fans (Swiftia palida) in the middle. As this site is in the middle of the sound of Jura, the visibility tends to be better than the likes of sailors grave due to the lack of fresh water run off.
