Eilean na h-Eairne East Reef comprises of a rocky slope down to about 25m with gulleys covered in sand splitting the rock. The kelp forest comes down to about 15m here, partly as a result of the good visibility often found in the Sound of Jura. At the bottom of the rocky slope is a boulder field that is covered in hydroids and bryazoans as well as other larger life. Dead mans fingers are quite common from the strong northerly tide.
